Firewalls
Java- Some corporate firewalls will not allow Java to pass through due to potential security risks.
QT- Non-issue as no code is sent to browser for playback.
Quality
Java- Limited to one file size resolution. Size is predicated on what typical user browsers/cpu can handle. FYI it is less than the lowest quality QuickTime version.
QT- QuickTime versions of the panoramas are served in three resolutions - low, medium and high. QuickTime knows what your Internet connection speed is and will send you the best quality version for your connection speed.
Saving to Disk
Java- You cannot save these files on your computers hard drive to show someone else or keep for later reference. They are perishable and live within the browser window for the period that you view them.
QT- You can save QuickTime files to disk as you would a JPEG or GIF image by clicking on the image and holding the mouse down until a SAVE dialog appears. This feature does require the PRO version of QuickTime.
Multimedia Capabilities
Java- Limited.
QT- With QuickTime you have over 200 digital media capabilities and components available to view just about anything available on the Internet. See the link below for more info. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/specifications.html
Memory
Java- Java operates inside your Browser application and increases its use of memory. Could slow down playback if your PC does not have enough physical RAM.
QT- QuickTime operates at the OS(Operating System) level and uses a Plug-in that does not rely on the browser application itself for playback.
Plug-in
Java- No plug-in required. Does require Java capable browser.
QT- Does require the installation of QuickTime. Click on the icon below to download.
